COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio State tailback Mike Weber sprained his shoulder in Saturdays game against Nebraska but is expected to play when the No. 6 Buckeyes travel to Maryland this week to face the Terrapins.Weber, a freshman who has compiled 842 rushing yards this season, left Saturdays blowout in the third quarter favoring his shoulder and didnt return. Hes fourth in rushing in the Big Ten, averaging 93.6 yards. He should be fine for the game, coach Urban Meyer said Monday. No contact this week in practice.Weber had 11 carries for 72 yards when he left the game, which Ohio State won 62-3 . Demario McCall spelled Weber and picked up 73 yards on 16 carries in the second half.Meyer said he hadnt seen the offensive explosion coming against Nebraska, given that the Buckeyes struggled offensively the past few games. He said it was a matter of pushing and cajoling until the young team started clicking again.Quarterback J.T. Barrett was 26 for 38 for 290 yards, and the offense rolled up 590 yards against Nebraska, then a Top 10 team. Ten players caught passes and Barrett wasnt sacked, although he had a couple narrow escapes. This was a steady climb, Meyer said. We were climbing very good early in the season. We plateaued, and somehow you have to get the climb started again. If I thought there were chemistry issues and give-in, then you implode. It wasnt that at all. Coaches have to do a better job, players have to do a better job, and they did.Left tackle Jamarco Jones, whose low point was the Oct. 22 loss to Penn State in which Barrett was sacked six times, said a few tweaks and hard work got the O-line back on track. All five members graded out as champions Saturday on Meyers in-house evaluation system. It was small things we were doing that were fixable, Jones said.Ohio State (8-1, 5-1 Big Ten, 6th CFP) takes on a Maryland (5-4, 2-4) team that has lost its last two.AUDITIONING PUNT RETURNERSDontre Wilson apparently has lost his job returning punts after he fumbled one away Saturday in the second quarter. He had muffed one against Wisconsin and clearly has run into trouble lately fielding them cleanly.Meyer said hes looking at H-back Curtis Samuel, McCall and wide receiver K.J. Hill.Speaking of Hill, the freshman caught five passes for 66 yards against Nebraska, and Meyer is singing his praises.Hes a really good player, Meyer said. Hes earning more playing time. Very reliable guy, good blocker, always in the right place. Hes got good hands. In fact, Meyer said, he thought the young wide receiver corps had its best game of the year by far. They are, he said, just coming into their own a little bit.USING SAMUELMeyer has faced questions in recent weeks about getting the ball into the hands of Samuel more often. Hes often said that Samuel, a hybrid running back/receiver, is the teams most dynamic playmaker. Those questions will stop. Samuel rolled up 173 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns in less than three quarters Saturday, including a 75-yard scoring pass. As a result, he was named co-Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week on Monday. He caught eight passes for 137 yards and added 41 yards on the ground on five carries. Hes the only FBS player with at least 500 yards rushing and 500 passing.---More AP college football at www.collegefootball.ap.org and https://twitter.com/AP-Top25 .---Follow Mitch Stacy at http://twitter.com/mitchstacyCheap Authentic Air Jordan 13 . MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- ?? The Auburn Tigers have flipped the teams normal dynamic. A defense that may be the programs best in the past decade has helped the Tigers overcome an inconsistent offense and return to the national rankings. Its a role reversal from No. 23 Auburns standard formula since Gus Malzahns arrival first as offensive coordinator and then head coach, but its working well lately.Defense has kept the Tigers in every game this season even before a current three-game winning streak. No shootouts needed, either.Theres no doubt it changes the way you prepare, Malzahn said. Each games kind of different within its own self but its really great to have a defense that can do what theyve done so far.Auburn (4-2, 2-1 Southeastern Conference) has rebounded from losses to No. 3 Clemson and No. 6 Texas A&M thanks to a defense led by linemen Montravius Adams and Carl Lawson and cornerback Carlton Davis. The group is bolstered by players who came into the season mostly anonymous but have carved out significant roles. The Tigers are off this week before facing No. 22 Arkansas. This Auburn defense has outperformed any in recent memory, including the 2010 national championship team and the 2013 runners-up.The Tigers rank 12th nationally in scoring defense, giving up 16 points a game, a 10-point improvement from last season. They havent been better than 48th in scoring defense since finishing 14th nationally in 2008. They were sixth the previous year before beginning a prolonged drop-off.Auburn has also jumped from 71st in total defense to 29th, giving up 346.8 yards per game.As expected, the defensive line has been the biggest strength since Adams and Lawson opted against jumping to the NFL after last season. Freshman Marlon Davidson emerged as an instant starter opposite Lawson, redshirt freshman Javaris Davis has taken over aat one cornerback spot and linebackers Deshaun Davis and Darrell Williams have taken on big defensive roles.ddddddddddddLawson has five of the Tigers nine sacks over the past three games, including a 38-14 win last Saturday at Mississippi State. Hes having a breakout year after missing half of last season and all of 2014 with injuries. As talented a D-line as youre going to see anywhere in the country, Bulldogs coach Dan Mullen said.Steele inherited a defense with six returning starters after former coordinator Will Muschamp left to become South Carolinas head coach. Deshaun Davis and Williams have moved from deep on the bench into starting roles. Davis had five tackles last season and Williams didnt have any; now they have 24 and 23, respectively.Muschamp, who helped recruit some of the young players, has noticed their impact.Theyre playing extremely well, he said. The defensive line has been dominating.Theyve got a bunch of good players up front. Marlon Davidson is a very mature freshman, Muschamp said, adding coaches felt when they were recruiting Davidson that he was going to be a guy that could step in and play. The defense has done it without significant impacts from last years top recruit, defensive end Byron Cowart, and Illinois graduate transfer linebacker T.J. Neal.Malzahn thinks the defense has built off its strong season-ending performance against Paxton Lynch and Memphis in the Birmingham Bowl. The defensive staff really gelled and guys are playing extremely hard for them, he said. Our run fits have really been better than they have been in the past and weve done a good job of taking away the easy throws in the passing game.---AP college football website: www.collegefootball.ap.org ' ' '
