WINNIPEG - Winnipeg Goldeyes manager Rick Forney announced today that the baseball club has signed rookie right-handed pitcher Wes Alsup, activated left-handed pitcher Pete Gehle from the inactive list and placed right-handed pitchers Chris Allen and Dan Martony on irrevocable waivers for the purpose of granting their release. Alsup, 26, played in the Seattle Mariners system last season, going 2-3 with a 8.74 ERA in a combined 22 appearance at the Rookie, Single-A and Advanced-A levels. He made his professional debut with the Joliet Jackhammers of the defunct Northern League in 2010, posting a 2.05 ERA and no record in 22 games out of the bullpen. "Weve been looking to upgrade the rookie spot in the bullpen since training camp and its hard to pass up on a guy like Wes," Forney said. "He throws firm in the low to mid 90s and we couldnt pass up on his rookie classification." In 2011, Alsup started the season in the Atlanta Braves system with Single-A Rome of the South Atlantic league before becoming the closer for Windy City of the Frontier league, earning eight saves. Allen made two scoreless appearances for the Goldeyes this season, while Martony didnt see any game action. "Chris is a great teammate and was off to a good start in two appearances," Forney said. "With our bullpen, we need to keep some rookies down there and Chris was left as the odd guy out." The Goldeyes now have 23 players on their active roster, including 12 pitchers and 11 position players. Cheap Orioles Jerseys Authentic . It might not have mattered.
