My colleagues Scott Burnside and Pierre LeBrun had control of the power rankings for the first two months. Now its my turn to let the masses disagree with my choices -- and that means theres plenty of movement this week.1. (Last week: 2) Montreal Canadiens, 17-6-2During their five-game road trip (during which Montreal has gone 2-2-0), the Canadiens posted a 5-4 shootout victory over the Kings on Sunday. Forward Andrew Shaw has three goals in his past five games. Captain Max Pacioretty had two goals and one assist for three points, while goalie Carey Price recorded his league-leading 14th win.2. (3)?New York Rangers, 17-8-1Rick Nash has two goals and one assist in the past three games. Hes going into the dirty areas and has been an offensive force of late while also helping to mentor rookie linemate Jimmy Vesey.3. (1)?Chicago Blackhawks, 16-8-3Goalie Corey Crawford had an appendectomy Saturday and will miss two or three weeks. He is 12-6-2, has a 2.27 goals-against average and a .927 save percentage. The Blackhawks now need to play better overall defense in front of backup Scott Darling during Crawfords absence.4. (5) Pittsburgh Penguins, 15-7-3Captain Sidney Crosby has two goals and five assists for seven points in the past four games. Overall, he has 26 points (16 goals, tied for the league lead, and 10 assists) in 19 games.5. (6) Ottawa Senators, 15-8-2With goalie Craig Anderson on personal leave to be with his wife who is battling cancer, fellow netminder Mike Condon made his second consecutive start. Condon is 3-1-1 and had 24 saves to help the Senators to a 2-0 win over the Panthers. It was his second shutout in five games since the Senators acquired him via trade from the Penguins on Nov. 2.6. (9) Columbus Blue Jackets, 14-5-4The Blue Jackets set a franchise record with a 60-shot performance during Saturdays 3-2 shootout win over the Coyotes. It was Columbus third straight victory, and the Blue Jackets improved to 8-1-2 in their past 11 games. Columbus five regulation losses are the fewest in the league.7. (4) Washington Capitals, 13-7-3The Capitals have lost three consecutive games (0-2-1) -- falling to the Maple Leafs, Islanders and Lightning. Washington will attempt to snap its skid against the rejuvenated Sabres on Monday night.8.? (14) San Jose Sharks, 15-9-1The Sharks had an emotional 4-1 win over the Kings on Wednesday. San Jose has dealt with a busy schedule of late, including a stretch of 10 games in 18 days, and is 6-3-1 during that span.9. (7) Tampa Bay Lightning, 14-11-2Tampa Bay has gone 4-5-1 in its past 10 games. Forward Brian Boyle scored the shootout winner to help the Lightning snap a four-game losing skid with a victory over the Capitals on Saturday.10.?(23) Philadelphia Flyers, 14-10-3The Flyers had a pair of character wins over the Blackhawks and Predators, and have won five straight to match the franchises longest winning streak since 2013-14.11. (8) St. Louis Blues, 14-7-4Alexander Steen scored his 200th goal in his 765th game during Saturdays 3-2 overtime loss to the Jets.12.? (15) Edmonton Oilers, 14-10-3The entire hockey world held its breath when Oilers captain Connor McDavid left Sundays game in the second period against the Wild because of the leagues concussion protocol. Fortunately, he returned in the third period and showed no ill effects. It would be devastating to Edmontons hopes to lose its best player for any amount of time.13.? (12) Los Angeles Kings, 13-10-2The Kings are 6-2-2 in their past 10 games but dropped a 5-4 shootout decision to the Canadiens on Sunday.14.? (11) Minnesota Wild, 12-8-4Eric Staal?-- who has five goals and 10 assists for 15 points in 20 games -- has added so much to the Wild both on and off the ice. And?Charlie Coyle is starting to heat up.15.? (18) Boston Bruins, 14-10-1Who knows where the Bruins would be this season without goalie Tuukka Rask? He made a season-high 35 saves en route to a 2-1 win over the Sabres on Saturday and is 13-4-1 with a 1.60 goals-against average and a .941 save percentage.16.?(22)?Winnipeg Jets, 13-13-2After missing 23 games because of injury, forward Bryan Little has four points in four games while logging plenty of ice time. The Jets had a huge 2-1 win over the Blackhawks on Sunday during which Winnipeg goalie Connor Hellebuyck made 25 saves.17.?(25) Calgary Flames, 13-13-2After breaking his finger, forward Johnny Gaudreau was expected to miss six weeks. It took him only three weeks to get back, and he wasted no time having an impact, scoring a goal and adding an assist against the Ducks on Sunday in his first game back.18. (10) Nashville Predators, 11-9-4Filip Forsberg needs to produce more. He only has two goals after scoring 33 in 2015-16.19.?(13) Anaheim Ducks, 12-9-5The Ducks dropped an embarrassing 8-3 loss to the Flames on Sunday. Ryan Kesler scored two goals in that game and now has 21 points in 26 games.20.?(16) New Jersey Devils, 11-7-6Even goalie Cory Schneider needs a day off. So backup Keith Kinkaid took advantage of his opportunity and led the Devils to a 5-4 overtime win over the Predators on Saturday. Hes 3-1-2 with a 2.59 goals-against average and a .928 save percentage.21.?(17) Florida Panthers, 12-11-2A week after making a coaching change, the Panthers are 1-1-1 under new coach Tom Rowe. Florida will face the Bruins and Flyers on back-to-back nights on Monday and Tuesday, respectively.22. (19) Dallas Stars, 10-10-6Goalie Kari Lehtonen made 23 saves to lead the Stars to a 3-0 win over the Avalanche on Saturday. It was his first shutout of the season.23. He missed the first 21 games with a high-ankle sprain and has three goals and one assist for four points in three games. His presence adds an entirely different level of speed and finesse.26.?(24) Detroit Red Wings, 12-11-3Red Wings forward Frans Nielsen had an assist against his former team in a 4-3 win over the Islanders. He spent 10 seasons with the Islanders before signing a six-year deal with the Red Wings on July 1.27.? A look at the U.S. team in the 41st Ryder Cup on Sept. 30-Oct. 2 at Hazeltine National in Chaska, Minnesota. Players are listed in the order they made the team.DUSTIN JOHNSONAge: 32.Ryder Cup record (2 teams): 4-3-0.World ranking: 2.Career victories: 12.Majors: U.S. Open (2016).2016 victories: U.S. Open, Bridgestone Invitational, BMW Championship.Ryder Cup partners: Phil Mickelson, Jim Furyk, Matt Kuchar.Outlook: Johnson has emerged as the best American, if not the best player in the world, at the moment. He missed the last Ryder Cup, when he was sitting out for six months to seek help for what he described as personal challenges. He can win when hes not putting his best. Hes hard to beat when he is.---JORDAN SPIETHAge: 23.Ryder Cup record (1 team): 2-1-1.World ranking: 4.Career victories: 10.Majors: Masters (2015), U.S. Open (2015).2016 victories: Hyundai Tournament of Champions, Colonial.Ryder Cup partners: Patrick Reed.Outlook: Spieth has yet to win a singles match in his two appearances in a Ryder Cup or Presidents Cup. He is playing reasonably well; it just doesnt seem like it because last year was among the best. He and Dustin Johnson were formidable in fourballs at the Presidents Cup last year.---PHIL MICKELSONAge: 46.Ryder Cup record (10 teams): 16-19-6.World ranking: 14.Career victories: 45.Majors: Masters (2004, 2006, 2010), British Open (2013), PGA Championship (2005).2016 victories: None.Ryder Cup partners: Corey Pavin, Jay Haas, Davis Love III, Tom Lehman, David Duval, Jim Furyk, David Toms, Chris DiMarco, Anthony Kim, Hunter Mahan, Dustin Johnson, Rickie Fowler, Keegan Bradley.Outlook: He is playing on his 11th straight team, an American record. And he has qualified for every one of them, a record that will be hard to beat. But which Mickelson will show up at Hazeltine? The player at Royal Troon who took Henrik Stenson to the wire? Or the guy who can miss fairways and short putts? Plus, he has taken on a big leadership role for this team and thus carries a little more of the burden.---PATRICK REEDAge: 26.Ryder Cup record (1 team): 3-0-1.World ranking: 8.Career victories: 5.Majors: None.2016 victories: The Barclays.Ryder Cup partners: Jordan Spieth.Outlook: Reed is tough in match play because he makes it personal. He whipped up the Scottish crowd by hushing them with his finger over his lips, and hes sure to whip up the home crowd. But it starts with good golf, and his golf was ordinary at the Presidents Cup. His only victory was fourballs with Spieth.---JIMMY WALKERAge: 37.Ryder Cup record (1 team): 1-1-3.World ranking: 16.Career victories: 6.Majors: PGA Championship (2016).2016 victories: PGA Championship.Ryder Cup partners: Rickie Fowler.Outlook: He was among the best rookies at Gleneagles last time, but he was only 1-3-0 at the Presidents Cup. His season was pedestrian until he put it all together to win the PGA Championship, and he showed more good form was on the way by contending at the Deutsche Bank Championship. Hes one of the better putters on the U.S. team.---BROOKS KOEPKAAge: 26.Ryder Cup record (rookie): 0-0-0.World ranking: 22.Career victories: 2..ddddddddddddajors: None.2016 victories: None.Ryder Cup partners: None.Outlook: The only American rookie in this Ryder Cup, he missed a month because of ankle injury, returned and sewed up a spot on the team with a tie for fourth in the PGA Championship. His results have been ordinary during the FedEx Cup playoffs, and he was one of three Americans who missed the Tour Championship.---BRANDT SNEDEKERAge: 35.Ryder Cup record (1 team): 1-2-0.World ranking: 23.Career victories: 8.Majors: None.2016 victories: Farmers Insurance Open.Ryder Cup partners: Jim Furyk.Outlook: Snedeker went from winning the FedEx Cup to playing in his first Ryder Cup in 2012. He was at his best the opening two months of the season. Driving and power are not strengths. Putting is what makes him dangerous. His only partners in the Ryder Cup or Presidents Cup -- Jim Furyk, Hunter Mahan and Webb Simpson -- will not be at Hazeltine.---ZACH JOHNSONAge: 40.Ryder Cup record (4 teams): 6-6-2.World ranking: 27.Career victories: 12.Majors: Masters (2007), British Open (2015).2016 victories: None.Ryder Cup partners: Chad Campbell, Scott Verplank, Stewart Cink, Hunter Mahan, Jason Dufner, Matt Kuchar.Outlook: He made the team on the strength of his British Open victory -- last year. Johnsons best finish this year is fifth place at Bay Hill, and he never really contended there. He switched golf equipment at the start of the year. But he is tough in match play because he keeps the ball in play and his strengths typically are the wedges and putter.---RICKIE FOWLERAge: 27.Ryder Cup record (2 teams): 0-3-5.World ranking: 9.Career victories: 6.Majors: None.2016 victories: Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship.Ryder Cup partners: Jim Furyk, Phil Mickelson, Jimmy Walker.Outlook: He has yet to win a match in the Ryder Cup, and his record in the Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup is 1-6-5. But he is popular with his teammates and is versatile when it comes to pairings. He wasted a good chance to make the team outright at The Barclays. This will be his first Ryder Cup on home soil.---J.B. HOLMESAge: 34.Ryder Cup record (1 team): 2-0-1.World ranking: 21.Career victories: 4.Majors: None.2016 victories: None.Ryder Cup partners: Boo Weekley.Outlook: Holmes and Mickelson are the only American players who have been on a winning Ryder Cup team. Holmes is long and aggressive, but he can be shaky with the putter. His last victory was the Shell Houston Open in April 2015. He won the B-flight at the British Open by finishing third (14 shots behind Henrik Stenson).---MATT KUCHARAge: 38.Ryder Cup record (3 teams): 4-5-2.World ranking: 17.Career victories: 9.Majors: None.2016 victories: None.Ryder Cup partners: Stewart Cink, Dustin Johnson, Jim Furyk, Bubba Watson, Zach Johnson.Outlook: Kuchar won the bronze medal at the Olympics, the highlight of his year thus far. He is reliable in match play, and easy to match based on having five partners in three Ryder Cups. His last PGA Tour victory was in April 2014 at Hilton Head. ' ' '
