LAS VEGAS -- Tiger Woods will have the Monster logo on his bag for longer than just this weekend. His deal with the energy drink company is a multiyear deal, Monster Energy vice president of sports marketing Mitch Covington confirmed Thursday. While the deal was known since Woods debuted the logo on his bag this week in the Bahamas in his first tournament in 15 months, Monster did not officially confirm the relationship until Thursday. Its a multiyear deal, Covington told ESPN.com at the Wynn Las Vegas after speaking at a SportsBusiness Journal motorsports marketing forum. There was some confusion in the press about whether we just had him for just one tournament, and thats not the case at all.We wish him the best in the comeback. We feel like that Tiger Woods is such a transcendent, legendary athlete that regardless of how his play goes, hes still an important property for us. Were certainly hoping that his comeback is successful.Woods shot an opening-round 73 at the Hero World Challenge, his first round with the Monster logo on the bag. In his career spanning more than two decades, Woods had six previous sponsors on his golf bag.Covington told the forum attendees not to expect Monster to start signing golfers -- just the one with 79 career PGA Tour victories. We continue to add athletes and properties that make sense for us as we grow, Covington said. A lot of times, people are saying, Are you getting into golf now? Not really. We found an athlete that wins.We found a transcendent, legendary athlete in Tiger Woods that is arguably one of the greatest athletes of our day. Monster likes to associate with winners. Tiger Woods is a winner and we think is going to win again.Woods joins a group of mostly action sports and motorsports athletes who endorse the brand. Monster Energy turned a $546 million profit in 2015 and didnt even issue a news release to announce the new partnership with Woods. Our rollout there was him walking out on the course rather than making a formal corporate announcement, Covington said after the forum. Were super-excited. We think he is a great fit for the brand. Hes a true, determined competitor that transcends golf.Weve got a really good relationship with Tiger and we are really excited about his comeback. We think its going to be good for us, obviously, and hes been great to work with.Whether Monster unveils a drink tied to Woods remains to be seen.Thats always a possibility, Covington said. We talk to a lot of our athletes about what they need and what they like in the way of a beverage. We take that into a strong consideration of the potential of doing that. There is nothing official. Fake NBA Jerseys Online .com) - The Montreal Canadiens embark on their first road trip of the season as they head out west to battle the Calgary Flames on Wednesday night. MANHATTAN, Kan. -- Jesse Ertz is exactly where he started last season for Kansas State. He hopes the similarities end there. The junior quarterback won a three-way competition for the starting job against No. 8 Stanford on Friday night, resuming the role he had for two plays last season. Ertz hurt his knee in the opener against South Dakota, then managed one more snap before his year was over.Hes in all reality just been more consistent than the other two, Kansas State coach Bill Snyder said in making the announcement Monday. Thats extremely important to us.Ertz was considered the front-runner for the job, but the competition with Joe Hubener -- who was the starter most of last season -- and Alex Delton remained tight throughout fall camp.Snyder said that Ertz only pulled away from the other candidates in the last week.It really did go for an extended period of time, he said. It was one of those things, if you could envision it, one day you say, `This guy lit it up today, the next day it was somebody else, the next day it was somebody else. There was that inconsistency of who was day-in and day-out at the top of the list, based on his performance that day.Ertz may best fit the mold of Kansas State quarterbacks, too.The junior from Burlington, Iowa, was a prolific passer in high school who also has the ability to break down defenses with his feet. He may not have the flash of Ell Roberson or the power of Collin Klein, two other dual-threat quarterbacks who had great success at Kansas State, but he at least has enough shimmy to keep opposing coaches off kilter.Jesse has a huge upside because of his speed, his accuracy throwing. He obviously knows the offense extremely well at this time, Kansas State offensive coordinator Dana Dimel said. As you remembber the first game last year he was a starter, so you have a returning starter as far as knowledge goes, but you dont have a returning starter as far as experience goes.ddddddddddddHis biggest attributes are his knowledge of the offense and his overall speed as a runner. He also has shown the kind of natural leadership the Wildcats lacked last season. He works really hard and hes competitive. Even in conditioning, he pushes everyone really hard, Kansas State wide receiver Byron Pringle said. He will run it and take the responsibility. If you are right, he will tell you that you are right.Hubener has the best arm of the three quarterbacks, but he was wildly inconsistent last season. He was even benched at one point and wide receiver Kody Cook took the snaps. Delton is the most intriguing of the three prospects if only because he is the least well-known of them. The redshirt freshman also hurt his knee and missed most of last season. While most pundits have pegged the Wildcats for the bottom half of the Big 12, there is a sense of optimism surrounding the program. They should have one of the leagues best defenses, and with improved quarterback play could have enough offense to keep them in most games.Facing the Cardinal on the road is certainly a daunting test right out of the blocks.I think theyre excited about it. Theyre anxious to play, Snyder said. Theyve gone through what most players consider a difficult period of time, going through two-a-day practices and meetings all day. its certainly demanding, and theyre anxious to do what they like to do and thats play on game day. I think the enthusiasm is good in that respect. ' ' '
