LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The Queen finally was dethroned -- at least for a day.Tepin, the reigning queen of the filly-mare turf ranks, was unable to make sufficient headway after Photo Call sped away to a huge lead before holding sway for a 2-3/4-length upset in the 19th running of the Grade 1 First Lady on a sunny Saturday at Keeneland. With Hall of Fame jockey Kent Desormeaux sending her out of the far outside post, Photo Call opened up on her nine rivals going into the first turn of the one-mile race and never looked back, dealing Tepin her first defeat in nine races.Photo Call returned $61.40 after finishing in 1:35.62 over a firm turf. Tepin, the 2-5 favorite, was another 3-1/2 lengths before Celestine, with Nemoralia another three lengths back in fourth. She was really full of herself, Desormeaux said. I rode her with confidence.Purchased as a broodmare prospect last November at Keeneland for $3 million by Vinnie and Teresa Viola, Photo Call had won once in six starts since being turned over to trainer Todd Pletcher while running in longer turf races. Desormeaux said the turn-back to a mile meant it was possible Photo Call would be outrun for the lead and that Pletcher had instructed him to cover her up.Laughing, he said: That wasnt happening.Indeed, Photo Call led by seven lengths after a half-mile, by 10 lengths after six furlongs, and by 5-1/2 lengths passing the furlong pole. Tepin, ridden by Julien Leparoux, dug in down the stretch but had simply gotten too far behind to threaten.I cant take anything away from the winner, Leparoux said.Pletcher said from Belmont Park that we planned to shorten her up to see if we could get her back off the pace. Kent said she was pretty keen, so he just decided to drops his hands, called an audible and it worked out.The defeat does little to change the year-end goal for Tepin, who now proceeds to the Nov. 5 Breeders Cup Mile at Santa Anita as one of the favorites. Tepin defeated males last year in the BC Mile at Keeneland as part of a remarkable eight-race win streak that came to an end Saturday. The goal has always been the Breeders Cup Mile, a repeat there, said Norman Casse, son of and assistant to trainer Mark Casse. I havent lost any confidence in her. I think we are still set up to do that and shell move forward from this race.Unlike most of the FallStars Weekend stakes at Keeneland, there is no Win and Youre In berth to the Breeders Cup attached to the First Lady.Pletcher said its doubtful Photo Call will stretch back out in the Nov. 5 Filly-Mare Turf at 1-1/4 miles. Last year, Photo Call was fifth in the Filly-Mare turf when making her last start for Mrs. P.K. Cooper and trainer Graham Motion.I talked to Vinnie Viola right after the race and he mentioned maybe the Mile, Pletcher said. She did win at Santa Anita before, so well see.Tepin had already earned a Win and Youre In to the BC Mile for owner Robert Masterson after defeating males in the Woodbine Mile last month. The $2 exacta (10-2) paid $184.80, the $1 trifecta (10-2-8) returned $266.30, and the 10-cent superfecta (10-2-8-5) was worth $198.15.-- additional reporting by David GreningFake Vans Outlet . Fake Vans Shoes .Y. -- The Buffalo Sabres have recalled forward Kevin Porter and defenceman Chad Ruhwedel from the minors as part of a five-player roster shuffle made by the NHLs worst team. BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Jhonas Enroth was more excited Thursday to have his old job back as the Sabres No. 2 goalie than speculate about Ryan Millers uncertain status in Buffalo. "Who knows whats going to happen. I try not to worry too much about that right now," Enroth said. "Ryans still here, and its still Ryans team." For now, at least. Unsure whether they will be forced to trade Miller before his contract expires after next season, the Sabres hedged their bets by re-signing Enroth to a two-year extension. Enroth, who was a restricted free agent, returns for a fourth season in Buffalo. With a 21-18-10 record and three shutouts in 53 career games as Millers backup, Enroth is coming off a solid spring during which he showed potential of becoming a bona fide starter. After closing the Sabres season going 4-1-1 in six starts, Enroth led Sweden to the World Ice Hockey championship on his home ice. He posted a 1.15 goals-against average and a 95.6 save percentage en route to being named the tournaments top goalie. It was a breakthrough performance for Enroth, the Sabres second-round pick in the 2006 draft. It was one that impressed the Sabres in believing the 26-year-old goalie can carry a bigger load in the NHL. "Given Jhonas age, his experience, what hes been through, hes in a great position to really advance his career at this point," general manager Darcy Regier said. "(Hes convinced) me that at some point in his career that hes going to be a No. 1 goalie. I think people look at him differently now." After opening his career with a 17-6-3 record, Enroth hit a lengthy rough patch. He went 0-10-3 over a two-season stretch, before stopping 32 shots in a 3-1 win over the New York Rangers on March 13. Enroth said the past three months have boosted his confidence. "t;I think I proved to myself that I really can play at a high level," he said.dddddddddddd"So I feel I can get a little bit more of a workload." Theres a possibility that opportunity might come sooner than later. The Sabres are in the midst of overhauling their roster after missing the playoffs for a second consecutive season and for the fourth time in six years. Both Regier and Sabres owner Terry Pegula have expressed their desire to re-sign Miller to a long-term contract. Both, however, have also noted the goalie will have a say on whether he wants to stay in Buffalo or test free agency next summer. Should Miller elect to bolt, the Sabres would prefer to trade him before then to get some value in return. Miller is open to staying in Buffalo, but also aware the team has to determine whether he fits in their rebuilding plans. Leading scorer, forward Thomas Vanek, is in the same situation as Miller. Regier said very little has changed regarding Millers status after he had discussions with the players agent last week. He also intends to meet with Vaneks agent during the NHL draft next week in New Jersey. "Theyre exploring their options, and part of that is predicated on what we do organizationally," said Regier, who added that neither player has ruled out the possibility of re-signing with the Sabres. Based on conversations he has had with fellow GMs, Regier said the teams at the top of the draft are intent on keeping their selections. ...
