Butler was acquired from the Nashville Predators on June 14 in exchange for forward T.J. Brennan. He totaled four goals and 11 points with a minus-eight rating in 34 games between the Devils and Preds last season. A product of the University of New Hampshire, Butler has collected 20 goals and 28 assists in 128 NHL games over parts of four seasons for Ottawa, New Jersey and Nashville.
