The Chiefs visit the Chicago Bears this weekend for their third preseason game, then have a quick turnaround before their preseason finale.Their regular-season opener is a mere three weeks away.“After being in the league for 10 years, there’s only so many coverages a team can run, only so many philosophies,” he said. “I’m just trying to learn the terminology right now.”Chiefs general manager Brett Veach has been a bit uncertain of his defensive backfield since the start of training camp, when they had Bashaud Breeland in for an extended visit. But Veach didn’t pull the trigger on a veteran addition until signing Scandrick last week.“You can’t have enough corners, so Brett’s kept his eyes open, brought a couple in,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid said. “This one, he felt comfortable.”Finances were a big part of it — the cash-strapped Chiefs would owe him only $1.5 million for the upcoming season — but so were injuries and underwhelming performances early in camp.The Chiefs lost Daniel Sorensen for at least the start of the season after the safety broke a bone in his shin. They hope Berry can, too.The perennial Pro Bowl safety missed almost all of last season with a torn Achilles tendon, but he appeared ahead of schedule in his recovery when he participated in the offseason program. Berry also was on the practice fields of Missouri Western State University for the start of training camp, which Chiefs fans took as a good omen for the upcoming season.Then he began sitting out practices with a heel injury. And so far, the injury has caused Berry to miss enough time that many are wondering whether there is something more serious afoot.“I just don’t want to go backward. That’s what I don’t want to do,” Reid said between Monday’s morning walk-through and an afternoon practice. “I’m OK with it. He’s far enough long. … I just have to monitor it and see where he’s at. Rookie safety Troy Apke is the only player listed as out this week. The special teams ace will be replaced by Kenny Ladler who was signed from the practice squad this week.Wide receiver Maurice Harris told reporters that he was cleared from concussion protocol and had been participating in team drills the last two days. His symptoms returned last weekend, but he said he feels good right now. Gruden said Harris still needs to demonstrate he's symptom-free and be cleared by the doctors. There is a chance we'll see Harris back on the field this week as the team's #4 WR. If he can't go, Brian Quick takes his place as #4, but drops to #5 if Mo's active. Jehu Chesson will also be active if Harris sits another week.WR Paul Richardson showed up on the injury report yesterday with a shoulder injury that limited him. He didn't practice today, and is questionable for Sunday. Gruden said Richardson had an AC joint injury that was reaggravated in the Cardinals game. He says he's not overly concerned, but with the Redskins injuries at WR, it's a concern.Morgan Moses has been bothered by a knee injury this week, and is listed as questionable. He was limited the last two days Wes Martin Jersey , but should be ready for Sunday's game. He was ready for Business Friday.Three other Redskins appeared on this week's injury report. Trent Willisms(knee), Colt McCoy(thumb), and ILB Zach Brown(oblique) were all full participants in practice today, snd will play on Sunday. The Colts have ruled out 4 players for Sunday's game. The biggest name is LT Anthony Castonzo, who won't be available to protect Andrew Luck's blindside. Offensive tackle Denzelle Goode, defensive end Denico Autry, and cornerback Chris Milton are also out.
