ORLANDO, Fla. -- Deondre Francois was a little concerned after his first couple of drives Monday night.Things werent going exactly as Florida States redshirt freshman quarterback had hoped. Some critical passes floated high, some fell short, and the fourth-ranked Seminoles trailed No. 11 Mississippi by 22 points before the end of the first quarter. Then it all came together in the second quarter. Francois stood in the pocket and delivered a 16-yard touchdown pass to Travis Rudolph, the first of 33 consecutive points for the Seminoles in a 45-34 season-opening win over Ole Miss -- the largest comeback victory in school history.Things werent going right, but I couldnt panic because my team needed me behind the wheel, said Francois, just the fourth freshman to start the season as the Seminoles quarterback. So I just kept chopping. We were down 28-6, but I couldnt let them see me down, I had to portray the image that we were not about to lose this game.Francois made plays with both his arm and legs while playing in front of his home crowd in Orlando. He completed 33 of 52 passes for 419 yards and two touchdowns, and also rushed for 59 yards. He led the Seminoles on four touchdown drives and positioned freshman kicker Ricky Aguayo to convert a school-record six field goals while FSU scored on nine consecutive possessions between the second and fourth quarters.Hes a kid who loves his team, FSU coach Jimbo Fisher said of Francois. His teammates believe in him, and hes a fighter, and hes a competitor, which Im very proud of.Francois outplayed his much more experienced counterpart, Ole Miss senior Chad Kelly, who threw for 313 yards and four touchdowns but also had three interceptions and a fumble.Francois didnt commit a turnover and played with poise that earned him his teammates confidence. He just wants to make everything perfect, he wants to perfect his craft, said FSU running back Dalvin Cook. The confidence he has coming into the huddle, you have no choice but to go out and execute for him because he is going to lay it on the line for you.THE TAKEAWAYOle Miss: The Rebels up-tempo offense is potent, but big mistakes by Kelly under pressure took away any momentum. Kelly had three touchdown passes in the first half, but his turnovers (four) brought the offense to a standstill.Florida State: Francois looks like the real deal. His arm is impressive and his willingness to stay in the pocket was bold for a first-time starter. Cook found little running room early, but he contributed big as a receiver with a career-high seven catches for 101 yards. He also rushed for 91 yards on 23 carries.KEY NUMBERSOle Miss: The Rebels gave 13 points off turnovers, fueled by Kellys four giveaways.Florida State: The Seminoles won the time of possession battle 42:39 to 17:21. ... FSU will have to clean up some sloppiness after committing 15 penalties for 127 yards. ... The Seminoles converted 9 of 18 third downs. ... Among the kickers that Aguayo passed with his team-record six field goals? His brother Roberto, a second-round pick by Tampa Bay this year.INJURY REPORTOle Miss cornerback Ken Webster suffered a knee injury on the Rebels fourth defensive play when he went up to defend a pass to receiver Kermit Whitfield. Webster came down awkwardly and had to be carted off the field. His injury hurt the secondary because it didnt have a defensive back to leave out on an island in coverage.POLL IMPLICATIONSOle Miss: The Rebels should drop some in the polls, but they may not fall far after losing in what was essentially Florida States backyard. For a while, Ole Miss looked destined for a jump into the top 10, but things unraveled in the second half.Florida State: The Seminoles nearly became the third team in the top five to tumble, but instead they rallied for a huge neutral-site win. With No. 3 Oklahoma losing, FSU should move up to at least No. 3 in the next AP Top 25 poll.LAST WORDJimbo (Fisher) and I were talking before the game, there was going to be a good football team that walked out of here tonight not feeling well, and its us, Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze said. We did not deserve to win the game the way we played the second half.UP NEXTOle Miss: The Rebels return home to host Wofford of the FCS on Saturday. Terriers (1-0) are coming off a 21-7 win over Tennessee Tech.Florida State: The Seminoles will host Charleston Southern of the FCS on Saturday. The Buccaneers (1-1) are coming off a 57-7 win over Kentucky State.---The APs college football page: http://collegefootball.ap.orgChicago Bulls Pro Shop . But when it comes to determining if Raymond will find a place on the Leafs roster when training camp concludes in a week, well, that decision will ultimately fall to the head coach. Mickey Arthur, Pakistans coach, admitted it was very frustrating to see Mohammad Irfan only able to deliver five overs at Headingley before leaving the field with what was said to be cramp despite having been training as a standby player.Irfan had been drafted into the squad after Mohammad Hafeez was ruled out of the series and was one of four changes Pakistan made after conceding the world record total of 444 for 3 at Trent Bridge. He delivered Pakistans fieriest spell of the one-day series to remove Jason Roy and Alex Hales, setting back Englands chase of 248, and nearly claimed Eoin Morgan as well during a hostile over in the ninth. That battle with Morgan ended his first spell when he was then withdrawn from the attack after five overs. He continued fielding for a period which included holding a catch at fine leg to remove Joe Root, then disappeared to the dressing room.He eventually prepared to bowl again for the 42nd over but only managed one delivery, a vast wide off the pitch outside off, before trudging off again with Arthur clearly unimpressed as he watched from the sidelines.Leading into his comeback match, Irfan had bowled just four competitive overs - in a domestic T20 for Islamabad against Lahore on August 26 - although Arthur did reference two 50-over games as part of his period with the National Cricket Academy (NCA).Its very frustrating, Arthur said. There were checks and balances in place. He was put on standby when we selected our one-day squad, he went to the NCA and did his training. He played two 50-over games and 20-over game and was resident at the NCA for a period of a week and a half.Arthur conceded Im finding my way with the one-day team - which was already in a far greater degree of flux than the Test side when he came in as coach - but insisted he has a full say in selection alongside the chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq.I want to give guys opportunities and then well know by the end of the tour who we can and cant take forward. Irfan was a player of interest and I wanted to have a look at him go.dddddddddddd Inzi and myself have developed a really good relationship. We speak a hell of a lot. I spent probably 40 minutes on the phone to him yesterday just discussing where we were and possible names who could come in in positions Ive identified. What I am finding out is who can do a job and who cant.Arthur, who before the match at Lords earlier in this series said that no ones position was safe in the side, and put his over-30s on particular notice, admitted it had been an eye-opening four matches against England.England are a phenomenal cricket team, power hitters all the way down, we havent been able to get quick starts and clear the ropes, he said. We just dont have the players to do that within our group of 15 at the moment. Those are things we need to address and bear in mind for the next series. It also gives me an opportunity to decide who we take forward and how we play our cricket. With every game that becomes clearer and clearer. One issue he remains adamant on, however, is that players must conform to the off-field standards expected. One particular name in focus continues to be Umar Akmal whose attitude has come in for previous criticism by Arthur. He is still sidelined from the national side, having not been included for the one-off T20 at Old Trafford, and Arthur was again cautious in his assessment of Akmal. They have to conform. You would like to think, and Ive never worked with Umar so its all hearsay for me, that hes learnt a lesson, Arthur said. I havent had any conversations with him yet. Hes a very good finisher. His form in the local T20 competition is very good so hes putting his hand up and hes going about his business in a fairly good way. But in terms of other off-field stuff, that will be decided at a later date and well never compromise. ' ' '
