DENVER -- This is Brock Osweilers chance to stick it to the team that benched him for their Super Bowl run and Gary Kubiaks shot at sticking it to the organization that canned him in 2013.The Houston Texans (4-2) and Denver Broncos (4-2) are two division leaders with plenty of defensive chops and playoff plans who have some troublesome early selves Monday night.Intriguing subplots include Osweiler facing the team he spurned after spending four seasons as Peyton Mannings longtime backup and presumed successor and Kubiak facing the team that fired him in 2013 shortly after he suffered a mini-stroke.Kubiak is coming off another health scare , this time a complex migraine, which can mimic a stroke and which sidelined him for Denvers lackadaisical loss at San Diego last week that didnt exactly help him heed his doctors orders to get some rest. Both men are trying to keep emotion at bay as they try to beat the teams that gave them their first chance in the NFL to be in the positions theyre in now. Were facing a good team, thats what I know, Kubiak said. Obviously, I respect the organization. (Texans CEO) Bob McNair gave me a tremendous opportunity as a coach and Ill always cherish that.Osweiler, who signed a four-year, $72 million contract with the Texans in March, insisted he still has great respect for the Broncos and John Elway even though Denvers general manager didnt make an early push to keep him in Colorado.I think we have a great relationship, Osweiler said. In fact, I saw John up in Idaho this summer and we were able to visit for a few minutes, catch up and ask how the family is doing.Once again, I have nothing but respect and appreciation for John Elway. He gave me my first opportunity in the National Football League. He stuck with me for four years and really at the end of the day for John, nothing but love, respect and appreciation.Theres plenty more to this game than Osweiler and Kubiak facing their former teams:MILLER TIME: Texans RB Lamar Miller scored his first two touchdowns in Houstons 26-23 win over the Colts last week. He had 178 yards from scrimmage, including 149 yards rushing. Getting the ground game going against Denver could be key because the Broncos lead the league with 21 sacks and forcing Osweiler to drop back instead of handing off will expose him to big hits from Von Miller, Derek Wolfe and Shane Ray.RB CHANGES: Forget quarterback controversy, what the Broncos have on their hands is a running back quandary. C.J. Anderson still hasnt had a 100-yard game before Halloween in his three-year NFL career. Now, rookie Devontae Booker is getting more adept at picking up the blitz. Said Kubiak: I think he deserves more opportunities to handle the football, especially after gaining 46 yards on five carries against the Chargers.VOICES CARRY: Kubiak said his scratchy voice Monday wasnt from lingering weakness but all the yelling he had to do upon his return to work. During his absence, the Broncos, led by special teams coach Joe DeCamillis, were beaten 21-13 by the Chargers. The loss was similar to their 23-16 loss to Atlanta: slow start, poor play up front, conservative calls. If they dont fix these things, they could end up with their first three-game losing streak since Tim Tebow was their QB in 2010.WAIT, WATT: The Texans have won two of three games since losing J.J. Watt, last years NFL Defensive Player of the Year. Jadeveon Clowney and Whitney Mercilus are great players, Kubiak said. They have it coming from everywhere right now. They do a good job with their linebackers and getting them involved in the pass rush, but nobody is creating more negative plays than Houston. This will be the best defensive football team that weve played all year.SCARRED SECONDARY: Houstons secondary is ailing. CB Kevin Johnson (foot) is out. CB Kareem Jackson (hamstring) and S Quintin Demps (calf) didnt play last week and CB Johnathan Johnson (forearm) got hurt. Now come Emmanuel Sanders and Demaryius Thomas, who have combined for 67 catches and six TDs. Even if your secondary didnt have injuries, youd still have a tough matchup against those guys, Texans coach Bill OBrien said.---AP Sports Writer Kristie Rieken in Houston contributed.---AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and AP NFL Twitter feed: www.twitter.com/AP-NFL---Follow AP Pro Football Writer Arnie Melendrez Stapleton on Twitter: http://twitter.com/arniestapletonAir Force 1 For Sale . LOUIS -- Valtteri Filppula assisted on three of Tampa Bays four goals, and the Lightning beat the St. LONDON -- The English Football Association fears that Britains exit from the European Union will make it harder to win bids to host major tournaments.Although only half of the 55 members of European soccers governing body are in the EU, FA chairman Greg Clarke is concerned that England might find it tougher to build alliances as a result of the Brexit vote.England failed with bids for the World Cup in 2006 and then 2018, but did win the right to host the semifinals and final at the first continent-wide European Championship in 2020. Europe might have to wait until 2034 to be in line for another World Cup after Russia in 2018, but England could target a full European Championship before then.Clarke said he was mulling what Brexit does to our chances of a future tournament as he flew back from Englands first qualifier for the 2018 World Cup in Slovakia on Sunday. Can we count on EU support or will they vote for EU nations (for tournaments) in the future? I dont know the answer to that, but we have to get to the bottom of that, Clarke said.We have to build relations directly within UEFA now and not rely on the support of the EU nations because they might say weve got an EU member who wants it this year. So its doubly important to have really strong relationships in UEFA and FIFA and Im going to be working hard at that. The FA might have to slightly change our tactics for getting a tournament, Clarke said.It might be jointly hosted with an EU member, he added of a potential bid. We are thinking about those things.Clarke was speaking at an event hosted by football anti-discrimination group Kick It Out , whose chairman Herman Ouseley spoke out about discriminatory incidents in Britain since the divisive EU referendum in June when 52 percent voted to leave the 28-nation bloc. The more immediate impact of Brexit, once Britain formally triggers the two-yeear countdown to leave the EU, will be how any new visa and immigration system affects the flow of foreign players into the English Premier League.ddddddddddddWe know what the threats and what the opportunities are, Clarke said. We will move to engage our partners in Europe and the government and the agencies and others to make the best of it for English football.Clarke started as FA chairman last week. Here are other issues he touched on at his first media briefing:---ENGLAND TEAMClarke is scrubbing the firm target set by predecessor Greg Dyke that England must emulate its 1966 World Cup triumph in 2022.England exited Euro 2016 with a humiliating round of 16 loss to Iceland, leading to Roy Hodgson being replaced as manager by Sam Allardyce.Im not going to put pressure on Sam and say we are going to win this tournament or that tournament, Clarke said. But I want to see a competitive team.So the clock counting down to the 2022 finals in Qatar could go from the England team headquarters. That clocks daft, Clarke said.England made a winning start to World Cup qualifying, scoring in stoppage time to beat Slovakia 1-0 in Allardyces first match in charge.---ROONEY RETIREMENTEngland captain Wayne Rooney announced last week that he will retire from international duty after the World Cup in Russia. Clarke hopes he changes he mind.I note that (Argentina captain Lionel) Messi retired and then decided to come back again, Clarke said. If you are good enough, Sam will pick you. So if (Rooney) changes his mind, if he has a good World Cup and Wayne thinks to himself `I fancy a bit more of that and Sam wants to pick him, why wouldnt he (continue playing)?---Rob Harris at www.twitter.com/RobHarris and www.facebook.com/RobHarrisReports ' ' '
