RADO TRUE SQUARE FORMAFANTASMA Swiss watch brand Rado collaborated with award-winning Italian and Dutch designers Andrea Trimarchi and Simone Farresin to create the True Square Formafantasma automatic watch with a square high-tech ceramic case.
This specially designed version is based on the ground-breaking new all-high-tech ceramic True Square, based on the historical concept of a closed watch, creating a bold and impactful style that can stand the test of time.
The concept of closed watches can be traced back to pocket watches with a long history. The outer shell of the watch is to protect the delicate dial and mechanical devices inside. Only a small opening can see the time-the true function of the watch. This watch is equipped with a high-quality Swiss-made automatic three-hand movement with a power reserve of 80 hours.
True Square Formafantasma uses an extra layer of high-tech ceramic as the final scratch-resistant protective layer, and a small dial window is made in it. The window itself is protected by sapphire crystal, which is another super anti-scratch layer.
The bracelet is also a matt light gray high-tech ceramic titanium alloy, with a comfortable three-fold clasp, and the titanium case back is hypoallergenic. They were all selected for their tactility and adopted a unique, unusual light gray tone. The design not only comes from the inspiration of the pocket watch, but also from the name of the duo themselves. The ghostly appearance comes from both the monochromatic light gray structure and the "floating" dial through the small holes.
Studio Formafantasma represents two Italian designers – Andrea Trimarchi and Simone Farresin – living in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. In perceiving its role as a bridge between crafts, industries, objects and users, they are interested in establishing connections between their research-based practices and the wider design industry.
Whether it is designing or researching the alternative application of materials, Studio Formafantasma will pay the same strict attention to the environment, process and details for every project undertaken. Another nuance of the duo is that they did so out of concern for the historical, political, and social forces that shaped their environment. Their works have been exhibited and published internationally, and the museums have used Formafantasma designs in their permanent collections.
