HYT Introduces the S1 Seddiqi 75th Anniversary Edition The 75th anniversary of Ahmed Seddiqi's birth in 2025 has inspired some of the year's most notable watch collaborations, with HYT's contribution standing out for its pure ingenuity. Rather than launching a limited, numbered series, the Swiss brand has created three unique S1 watches—each a limited edition—in three colorways, telling the story of Dubai's transformation from a desert trading port to a cosmopolitan metropolis.
The S1 Seddiqi Limited Edition comes in Titanium Sand, Titanium Green, and Titanium Blue, each hue imbued with unique symbolic meaning. The Titanium Sand watch, embodying the brand's rich history, evokes the desert landscape of the Arabian Peninsula, where Ahmed Seddiqi conceived his vision for the brand in 1950. Green symbolizes growth and prosperity, representing an oasis of life in Arabic culture and a reflection of the family's role in cultivating the regional luxury watch market. The blue color captures the infinite possibilities of the future, echoing the Arabian Gulf, Dubai's gateway to the world.
What You Need to Know About the Watches Each 45.3mm titanium case is specially treated to complement its color. The green model features a Highlands Green ceramic coating, the blue model features an Arctic Blue ceramic coating, and the sand model is constructed from natural sandblasted titanium with black accents. All three models feature a black-coated titanium crown elegantly engraved with the anniversary "7S" and an anti-reflective sapphire crystal. The case is water-resistant to 50 meters.
The dial design subtly incorporates Indian numerals, a nod to the region's numerical heritage and Ahmed Sediqi's Middle Eastern roots. The green model features black-coated brass hour indicators with green appliques, and green-coated brass minute indicators with white and red appliques. The blue model inverts this design, with blue-coated brass hour indicators with black appliques and black-coated brass minute indicators with white and red accents. The Sand model features sand-coated brass throughout, with brown appliqués on the hour markers and red appliqués on the minute markers, creating a harmonious desert feel. Beige SuperLumiNova on the hands adds a touch of allure.
Movement At the heart of these unique timepieces is HYT's Caliber 501-CM, a 352-part mechanical movement that beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour and boasts a 72-hour power reserve. This manually wound movement drives HYT's signature Fluidmechanical complication—a system protected by seven patents and awarded the Innovation Award at the 2012 Geneva Grand Prix d'Horlogerie. Time is displayed via a fluidic retrograde hour indicator, in which two immiscible liquids—one colored, the other transparent—circulate within a borosilicate glass capillary tube with an inner diameter of just 0.8 mm. The boundary between the two liquids—the meniscus—serves as the hour hand, advancing along the capillary tube throughout the day before instantly jumping retrograde at midnight.
HYT's innovative quick-change strap system offers two options for each watch. The green and blue versions include a solid black Velcro and rubber strap. The sand version features a sand Velcro strap and a solid black rubber strap, all secured by a black DLC-coated titanium buckle with a satin and sandblasted finish.
These three unique timepieces represent HYT's most personal tribute to date to its retail partner, whose legacy continues to shape the watch industry.
